DOST Calabarzon to inaugurate new S&T hubs in Quezon, Rizal

LOS BAŇOS, Laguna — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Calabarzon is set to inaugurate two newly-built Science and Technology hubs in the region during its three-day celebration of 2018 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) from Nov. 12 to 14, with the theme “Science for the People: Innovation for Collective Prosperity.”

Rochelle L. Cruz, head of the public affairs, relations and communications unit (PARCU) of DOST Calabarzon, said the inauguration of the Quezon Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) Building at the Southern Luzon State University–Lucena Campus on Nov. 12 kicks off the RSTW celebration.

“DOST-Calabarzon will showcase the extent of Science, Technology, and Innovation programs and services given to our community-based partners, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and countryside in general through exhibits and fora,” Cruz said.

She said each PSTC will house a service laboratory as Center for Hazard and Environmental Resource Mapping (CHERM) in Quezon while a Regional Design and Creativity Hub for Innovation in MSMEs and Education (RDCHIME) will be established at the Rizal PSTC.

Cruz added that aside from the interactive exhibits, the DOST regional office will also host various forums and activities aimed “at surely making science more interesting for the people and the viewing public and become more aware of S&T programs and projects.”

“We innovate. We make a difference. This is DOST-Calabarzon’s commitment to its stakeholders. We are continuously delivering innovative and efficient S&T assistance to make science closer to the people,” she said.

The inauguration of Rizal PSTC Building located at the University of Rizal System-Antipolo City Campus will be held the next day (November 13).

The three-day S&T event will feature exhibits from various DOST agencies, private organizations, academe, and MSMEs at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City, Quezon.

The featured technologies include Mobile Planetarium, DIWATA, Augmented Reality and Storm Surge Simulator, Therapeutic Handloom, 3D Printer, Nipa Distilled Spirit Processing, Makapuno Island Products and Travelling Exhibits of the Philippine Science Centrum, among others. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
