‘Tokhang’ surrenderer tagged in CDO robberies

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY–A former “tokhang” surrenderer has been identified by the police as one of the suspects in the string of robbery incidents in this city.

In a press briefing Tuesday, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) Director Nelson Aganon, said that the suspect, Roosevelt Bedro, had surrendered early this year under the police’s “tokhang” operations, or “tuktok hangyo (knock and plea).”

Bedro, who was arrested Monday, and another accomplice identified as Archolito “Bingkol”  Aguinaldo, are both suspects in the string of robbery incidents targeting several branches of courier firm LBC.

In the latest robbery incident, Police named Bedro and Aguinaldo as suspects in the robbery incident on an LBC branch on Velez St. on November 4.

The duo allegedly carted away at least PHP100,000 cash.

“They also robbed an LBC branch in Tagoloan (town in Misamis Oriental), when the supervisor there was transferred to Velez branch, she already knew the suspects by their faces,” Aganon said.

Aside from robbery charges, police also slapped Bedro with illegal possession of an explosive device after yielding a hand grenade during his arrest.

Aganon said the duo may have been involved in at least six robberies on LBC branches within this year alone.

Meanwhile, Aganon has advised the LBC management to assign security guards in their branches. He said the local police are in talks with the City Council to pass an ordinance requiring business establishments to employ armed guards.

“Store owners should keep in mind the safety of their operations; that is why I brought this up to the city council,” he said. (Nef Luczon/PNA)
