ZAMBOANGA CITY – Some 34 young individuals are set to serve as city government officials for one week in line with the program of the Rotary Club to mold the youth as future leaders.

Dr. Justin Paber, Rotary Club of Zamboanga president, said Thursday they will serve as city government officials from Nov. 12 to 17 in line with the observance of Rotary Youth Week.

Paber said the selected participants are enrolled in Grades 9 and 10 in local schools.

“Before they were accepted to the program, they passed an examination, screening, panel interview, and they conducted an extemporaneous speech,” he said.

Through the program, he added, the participants will have the chance to sit together with the mayor, vice mayor, City Council members, and city government department heads as their counterparts.

“Children in our city must be trained well and exposed to public service as they will be serving the city in the future,” Paber said.

Fabio Angeles, who will serve as youth vice mayor, said that through the program, they will learn how an elected city government official works.

Angeles, a Grade 9 student of the Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School, said it will also be an additional experience for him and will help boost his self-confidence.
