COTABATO CITY – The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has recognized Kidapawan’s local government unit (LGU) for its comprehensive rehabilitation program for former drug dependents.

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista received the recognition from DDB chair Catalino Cuy during the launch of the Drug Abuse and Control Week in Lucban, Quezon on Monday.

In a statement, the Kidapawan information office said Evangelista was invited to the launch as one of the speakers, who shared the city government’s successful anti-drug campaign and rehabilitation program for former drug dependents.

“The Kidapawan LGU program was practical and logical that it helped drug personalities gain self-confidence and ready to be reintegrated back to the mainstream,” Cuy said during the program.

The city’s “Balik Pangarap at Barkada Kontra Droga” has benefitted more than a thousand former drug dependents.

DDB said it wanted the Kidapawan City rehabilitation program to be emulated by Lucban town or any other LGU across the country.

Aside from the effective rehab program, Kidapawan City has a community-based treatment intervention program that offers former drug dependents livelihood assistance and skills training.
