MANILA — Many parts of the archipelago will experience rains due to Tropical Depression (TD) Samuel, the weather bureau said on Tuesday.
“Samuel” was last eyed 260 kilometers east of Maasin, southern Leyte. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center, and gustiness of up to 65 km per hour. It is heading west-northwest at 20 km/h, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Rains with gusty winds is expected over Visayas, Caraga, Mimaropa, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, and Masbate, including Ticao Island.
The TD will also cause cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms likely until Wednesday afternoon over Calabarzon, rest of Bicol Region, rest of northern Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon affecting northern and central Luzon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.
Localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
PAGASA has placed tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) no. 1 over Masbate, including Ticao Island, Romblon, southern Oriental Mindoro, southern Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, including Cuyo Island, and Calamian Group of Islands, northern Samar, eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Siquijor, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Misamis Oriental, and Camiguin.
Strong to very strong winds will blow over the eastern seaboard of southern Luzon and in areas under TCWS no. 1. Coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough.
“Fisherfolk and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the areas under TCWS no.1, as well as the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon,” PAGASA said.
Moderate to strong winds will prevail over northern Luzon and the eastern part of central Luzon, where waters will be moderate to rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be moderate with moderate seas, PAGASA said.
