SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Three towns in the province of Antique are now benefitting from the free Wi-Fi access provided by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), a DICT official said Monday.

“Last year, there were three towns where the free public Wi-Fi was installed. Right now, the students in these municipalities are using it for their research work,” Arnold Abagat, DICT provincial field team leader, said in an interview.

The free connectivity are in towns of Tibiao, Tobias Fornier and Bugasong.

Except for Caluya, Sebaste, San Remigio and San Jose de Buenavista, other towns of the province are already connected to the internet highway. Antique has 18 municipalities.

“The DICT Project Management Office, through a contractor, is in charge of the installation of the link so I could not give the timetable as to when the other municipalities would already have their Wi-Fi signal,” he said.

He said after the installation of the link, the contractor also needs to install the access point or hotspot for the signal.

Meanwhile, Abagat said the DICT is just waiting for the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to be signed between their office and the provincial government for the installation of the free Wi-Fi at the lobby of the provincial capitol.

He said the free Wi-Fi would benefit capitol employees as well as the public who go to the government building.

“The free Wi-Fi project is intended to make the technology accessible to the underserved or unserved areas,” he said.
