BACOLOD CITY – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has assured the Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) of continued support through scholarships.
Jimmicio Daoaten, provincial director of TESDA-Negros Occidental, said in a statement on Monday the agency has been providing funds yearly for scholars in the province.
He cited NOLITC for being a “performer” in terms of quality instruction, which means they can comply with the requirements as basis for providing scholarship funds.
“This enables NOLITC to be prioritized by the TESDA,” Daoaten said, noting the support for the facility is 100 percent assured as the national government has funds for scholarship grants.
The provincial government-run NOLITC is implementing TESDA’s scholarship programs, including the Training for Work Scholarship Program.
TESDA provides funds with the assurance that the center’s graduates will pass the assessment or will have high employability rate.
“It is already established that NOLITC graduates are almost 100 percent employed. Companies are even ‘hunting’ them,” Daoaten said.
In its six years of operation, NOLITC has catered to about 5,000 students and produced some 4,000 graduates.
Daoaten noted that most of them are TESDA scholars.
NOLITC has been serving as equalizer in terms of access because it caters to talented youth from the far-flung areas and students coming from underserved and unserved localities, he said.
For local government units in Negros Occidental that have no training providers, NOLITC has given them the access to the programs of TESDA, he further said.
“When we say access, the support from the government is really availed,” Daoaten added.
