DAVAO CITY — The chief of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has warned policemen against firing their guns during the Christmas and New Year’s Day revelry.

Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum said, “trigger-happy cops will spend cold nights in detention cells and face the consequences of the law.”

Tagum issued the same warning to Dabawenyos who are thinking of using firecrackers or pyrotechnics to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Day.

He called on them to continue observing the local ordinance banning the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.

“We will also ensure that there will be no explosion of firecrackers and pyrotechnics,” he said.

Earlier, Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, Police Regional Office 11 (Davao region) director, said there will be no muzzle-taping of firearms of police personnel as has been the practice in the previous years.

Morales said he is confident that all police officers in the region are responsible enough to adhere to the prevailing policy against the firing of guns during the holidays.

Under the executive order signed by President Rodrigo Duterte, all local government units are mandated to identify areas where exploding firecrackers and pyrotechnics display are allowed.
