MANILA — The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday announced the suspension of work in all courts in the country on the days after Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“To allow the officials and personnel of the judiciary full opportunity to celebrate the holidays with their families, the Supreme Court has authorized the suspension of work in all courts nationwide on Dec. 26, 2018 (Wednesday) and Jan. 2, 2019 (Wednesday),” the SC said in an advisory.

Malacañang earlier issued Memorandum Circular Number 54 suspending work in government offices, including government-owned or controlled corporations, government financial institutions, state universities and colleges, local government units on January 2, 2019.

The circular signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said this is to give government employees the full opportunity to celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones.

The government has earlier declared January 1, 2019 a regular holiday.

Agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, and disaster preparedness and response shall continue with their operations.

Malacañang said suspending work in other branches of government, independent commissions and private companies will be at the discretion of their respective heads and management.
