The parents of Kian Loyd delos Santos on Monday, August 28, personally showed their gratitude to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who vowed an impartial probe into the killing of their 17-year-old son.

Lorenza and Saldy delos Santos paid a courtesy call on the President at the Malago Clubhouse in MalacaƱang Park to thank the President for the assurance that justice will be served for the death for their son.

The President, who came from an event in San Fernando Pampanga, arrived past 1:00 p.m. and had lunch with the couple.

President Duterte assured the parents of Kian that no one will meddle with the case, noting that only the courts and the fiscal will handle it.

At the same time, the Chief Executive also vowed that there would be no cover-up of abuses committed under his administration.

ā€œWala akong ano na mag-kapote ng abuso. Hindi trabaho ng Presidente ā€˜yan,ā€ the President told the parents.

ā€œTrabaho namin is proteksyon ng tao,ā€ he added.

The mother of Kian expressed gratitude to the President, who vowed that those responsible for the killing of his son will be held liable and hugged President Duterte after their meeting.

The meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, was requested by the parents of Kian.

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and Special Assistant to the President Christopher ā€œBongā€ Go accompanied the President during the meeting.

Dante Jimenez and Annie Jereza of the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption and Public Attorney’s Office Chief Persida Acosta were also present during the meeting.

MalacaƱang has said the filing of a criminal complaint against the Caloocan policemen ā€œunderscores this resolve of the government.ā€

Kian was killed on August 16 during an anti-drug operation in Caloocan City conducted by the Philippine National Police. (PND)
