MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday said no Filipino was among the wounded in a car crash that injured nine persons on one of the busiest streets in Tokyo.
According to the Philippine Embassy in Japan, the victims sustained minor to serious injuries after a 21-year-old man deliberately plowed into a crowd of New Year revelers gathered in the tourist and shopping district of Harajuku early Tuesday.
The driver was immediately taken into custody by authorities who are investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.
According to reports, the vehicle rammed down the narrow street of Takeshita, a popular tourist destination Japan and the focal point of Harajuku teenage culture and fashion.
The DFA said no Filipino was affected by the incident as conveyed by the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo after checking with Japanese authorities.
Philippine Consulate General Robespierre Bolivar said there are around 33,000 Filipinos in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
