MANILA — Passenger influx at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has increased during the holiday season, and continues to rise during the first few days of 2019.
Data sent to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday showed arriving and departing passengers have been increasing, from Dec. 15, 2018 to Jan. 3, 2019.
Records from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) revealed that domestic and international arriving passengers increased by 3.77 percent and 5.49 percent, respectively, compared to the previous holiday season.
Domestic arrivals were 586,671 from Dec. 15, 2018 to Jan. 3, 2019, compared to 565,371 in the same period in 2017 to early 2018.
International arrivals were 770,158 in the recent holiday season, compared to 730,074 in the previous year.
The number of domestic departures had a minimal increase of 0.17 percent (645,149 vs. 644,055), while international departures was up by 2.96 percent (628,756 vs. 610,658).
MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal visited the NAIA Terminals 1, 2 and 3 on Friday to observe passenger influx leaving after the holidays.
MIAA will continue to monitor passenger influx until Jan. 6.
