Abu Sayyaf bandit arrested in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police and Navy intelligence operatives have arrested an alleged Abu Sayyaf bandit in this city, an official announced Monday.

Chief Supt. Billy Beltran, Police Regional Office-9 (RPO-9) director, identified the suspect as Baser Ahmad, 45, with aliases of Abu Pandak Duma and Bensar, and a resident of Cabatangan, this city.

Beltran said Ahmad was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Sitio Talungon, Barangay San Roque, an adjacent village of Cabatangan.

He said Ahmad has a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention with no recommended bail issued by the court in Isabela City, Basilan.

He said the suspect was arrested after he was sighted driving a motorcycle in Barangay San Roque. (PNA)
