Additional ₱5B calamity fund sought for 2021

The House of Representatives is pushing for the increase of the calamity fund for 2021 with an additional budget of ₱5 billion amid the impact of natural disasters that severely hit the country.

House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said they will take up the bigger calamity fund in the bicameral conference for the proposed ₱4.1 trillion 2021 national budget.

The adjustment to the previously set ₱20 billion calamity fund for 2021 will be utilized to support the recovery especially in the livelihood of the provinces in Luzon which were heavily devastated by the onslaught of previous typhoons.

Velasco cited that the total cost of damage of typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses on agriculture and infrastructure in Luzon reached to ₱35 billion. – PTV News
