The son of Adora Faye De Vera appealed for her “humanitarian release” and her immediate return to Manila, highlighting her urgent need for medical treatment.
De Vera, sister of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chief Prospero “Popoy” De Vera, was arrested on Aug. 24 by police agents in Quezon City on charges of multiple murder.
She was arrested on the virtue of a March 10, 2006 warrant issue of a March 10, 2006 warrant issued by Judge Guilljie Delfin Lim of Iloilo City Regional Trial Court Branch 22.
Ron De Vera, son of the older De Vera, said her mother was in Manila to seek medical care as she is “very sick.”
“We appeal to government authorities to immediately bring her back to Manila to ensure her safety while she undergoes medical treatment for chronic asthma and complications,” he added.
“Iloilo is not a safe place for mama and it’s very far away from us. She has been through so much suffering. We appeal to government authorities to give her a chance to live a peaceful life and receive the proper medical care she needs.:
Ron also appealed to release Adora “on humanitarian grounds and allow us to take care of her.”
Praying for sister’s safety, good health
In a separate statement, the CHED Chairman said he is praying for her sister’s safety and good health in detention as she faces the cases filed against her.
“I have not seen her and I have not spoken to her for more than 25 years since she decided to rejoin the underground movement,” De Vera said.
He, however, clarified that he does not “share her views nor support her actions.”
De Vera also stressed that he supports the government’s efforts “to end the communist insurgency that has destroyed so many lives and property.”
“I will let the law take its course in resolving the charges against her.”
