MANILA — A health advocacy group on Thursday lauded the signing of the Universal Health Care Act into law.

In a statement, the Health Justice PH said President Rodrigo Duterte and Congress have translated into reality the national dream to make health care equitable and accessible to all.

“Dialogue between the government and the civil society groups has produced reforms in UHC, rendering health care truly responsive to existing realities,” said the Health Justice PH, an organization with legal expertise in tobacco control and public health promotion.

The group said it is looking forward to the improvement of public health’s outlook through strengthened health promotion, expanded benefits covering outpatient care, and organized health service delivery.

It added that the law would also provide easier access to quality health care, particularly for people in isolated and disadvantaged areas.

“We hope that the day will soon come when no Filipino will die without ever having been ministered to by a qualified healthcare professional. It may not happen overnight, but at least, we have embarked on the road toward improved healthcare services,” the group said.
