AFP holds 2017 Cyber Security Summit Series 2

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City— The Armed Forces of the Philippines will conduct its second Cyber Security Summit this year to arm its personnel against persisting and emerging threats in the cyber frontier.

“This undertaking is an educational and informational forum that will focus on cyber laws, threats, and application of technologies against advanced cyber security challenges,” said AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo.

The second of two summits scheduled this year will be held on Monday, 20 November 2017 at the AFP Commissioned Officers Club here. The first was held in June, which also gathered information technology experts and practitioners in the AFP and other uniformed services.

In this iteration, subject matter experts from Microsoft, 8Layers Technology, and FireEye Solutions will discuss awareness, strategies, trends, and threats to up to 100 participants from the General Headquarters, Major Services, and Unified Commands of the AFP.

Participants from the Department of National Defense, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Philippine National Police, and Philippine Coast Guard, among others are also present.

“Securing our IT infrastructure, through informed and trained personnel, will have a profound effect on the way we conduct our operations on the ground,” AFP Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero said.

“Just as the threats around us are evolving, we too, in the security sector, must adapt and advance our strategies and capabilities to effectively respond to threats in the cyber security frontier,” General Guerrero added. (AFP-PAO PR)
