A school in Alabang apologized after students and concerned citizens questioned the way it handled the recent death of a student.
In a statement, San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) Rector and President Fr. Gerardo Ma. De Villa said all students and staff that need to process the incident will be excused from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15.
“All academic work for those who wish to be in school from February 13-15, should not be disadvantageous to those who are at home,” De Villa said.
“People’s feelings should be respected, especially in this time of grief. I want to assure everyone that the school always has your best interest foremost in mind and sincerely cares about your welfare,” he added.
He also apologized “for everything that may have caused you pain in the wake of the unfortunate events.”
This after a Grade 12 student fell from the sixth floor of a school building.
The student was reportedly rushed to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang, but was eventually declared dead.
“No words could describe the pain we feel as we try to comprehend why such a thing happened. Our prayers are with the deceased’s family as we stand with them and offer profound sympathy,” De Villa said. –ag
