The United States Embassy in the Philippines has recognized the contribution to the community of Ana Patricia Non, the woman behind the Maginhawa Community Pantry which inspired the establishment of more pantries to help the poor during the pandemic.

Non, also called “Patreng” by the people around her, was conferred with the Ambassador’s Woman of Courage Award by Chargé d’Affaires Heather Variava.

“Empowered and courageous women can change the world for the better,” Variava said.

“I presented the Ambassador’s Woman of Courage Award to Ana Patricia Non for her community pantry initiative that inspired Filipinos to combine resources and help one another during the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.

The establishment of community pantries is among the initiatives across the country during the pandemic, where individuals exchange commodities such as food and other necessities to help those in need amid tight health restrictions and lockdowns. – gb
