Andanar backs Baguio, Benguet’s Palaro bid

BAGUIO CITY, Aug.13 — Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar has committed to help in Baguio and Benguet province’s joint bid to host the 2018 Palarong Pambansa.

Andanar, who met with Information officers of the different national line agencies and member of the Regional Development Council (RDC) Saturday has given a commitment to help the two local government units by endorsing their quest to host the 2018 games to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Andanar said he is hoping for the committee to look at all of the bids.

He said that he will be giving a recommendation to PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez supporting the coolest Palaro ever.

On Thursday, the two local governments, accommodation industries, utility companies and the media joined hands and signed a commitment to support the promotion as well as the preparations needed to be done in all the local government units.

This as Baguio Mayor Mauricio Domogan announced that they have already received the communication from the Department of Education that the technical inspection team will be arriving this coming week to inspect venues in the two localities, which are already in place.

Domogan also encouraged the officials of the other provinces in the Cordillera and agency heads to support their bid. The other bidders include  Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Tarlac; Marikina, Puerto Princesa and Ilagan, Isabela.

In addition, he also said that Baguio and Benguet that carries the tag “coolest Palaro” are conducive for sports competition and will be hosting the Palaro Pambansa. Once granted by the PSC and the Department of Education (DepEd), the two high-land local government units will be hosting the event for the first time.

Aside from Andanar, mixed-martial arts 1FC world champion Edward Folayang and World Pomsei champion Jordan Dominguez also expressed support to the Baguio and Benguet’s bid for 2018 “coolest Palarong Pambansa”.  (Pamela Mariz Geminiano/PNA)
