Angara, Piñol to lead 1st sugarcane expo in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY — The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) will hold the first-ever Philippine Sugarcane Industry Mechanization Expo at the agency’s Visayas office here on March 12 to 16.

The five-day expo, themed “Increasing Productivity through Mechanization,” will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Senator Juan Edgardo Angara and Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol will be the guests of honor during the opening program and the unveiling of exhibit in the morning of March 12.

On March 13 to 14, slated activities include tractor derby and field demonstrations of farm power, machineries and equipment such as sugarcane harvesters and loaders while on March 15, there will be technical presentations and an open house on soils and sugar laboratories.

In the morning of March 16, there will be a business summit with presentations by banks and other financial institutions, and the Philippine Sugar Corporation, and an interaction between exhibitors, customers and financers.

The Sugar Industry Development Act (SIDA) Socialized Credit Program will be launched in the afternoon with Senator Cynthia Villar and Negros Occidental (3rd District) Rep. Alfredo Benitez as guests of honor.
