Antique on alert for tropical depression

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is on alert as it monitors Tropical Depression “Agaton”.

PDRRMO chief Broderick Train said on Tuesday that since southern Antique had been placed under storm signal No. 1 they had to be on alert for any eventuality.

“We are on standby and monitoring the situation now,” he said.

He added that the towns of Anini-y in the south and Culasi and Libertad in northern Antique are being monitored because of intermittent rainfall.

Meanwhile, Train said that the New Year’s observance in the province was generally peaceful with no related incident reported except that there were two houses in Culasi town made of light materials that were burned down last January 1.

“The cause of the fire is still being ascertained though by the BFP (Bureau of Fire Protection),” he said.

Last Christmas Day, there was no holiday-related incident reported.

This was confirmed by Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo, head of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, who said that there was no firecracker injury reported because of the effective campaign of “Iwas Paputok” by the Department of Health. (PNA)
