Antique to conduct accessibility audit for first time

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — An accessibility audit of establishments, including schools in this province will be carried out as part of the observance of the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW) this coming July.

Paolo Castillo, head of the Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), said in an interview Wednesday that they have decided to hold the accessibility audit to raise awareness among establishment owners and school heads on the importance of providing access to their customers or students with disability.

The NDPR Week observance in Antique will kick off with a media blitz on July 11 but the accessibility audit will be on July 20.

“We also want to find out if they have provision such as ramps for persons with disabilities,” he said.

He said that together with the Association of the Municipal Engineers of Antique and other government agency personnel such as the Department of Public Works and Highways and Department of Interior and Local Government they will be visiting the Eagles Hotel, Land Bank of the Philippines and the Special Education and Development (SPED) Antique Integrated School, Antique Christian Center Inc, Advance Central College and other schools.

Currently, 11 blind students are enrolled at the SPED Antique Integrated School, thus making the accessibility access necessary.
