Antique gets 3 road upgrading projects under convergence program

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be implementing three convergence projects worth PHP759.25 million in Antique province.

These three road upgrading projects fall under the Road Leveraging Linkages on Industry and Trade (ROLL-IT) program that aims to connect localities with potential industries to the market.

Wilson Alian, in-charge of the DTI’s Negosyo Center in Antique, said that the projects to be implemented in Barbaza, Laua-an and Sibalom towns are already funded.

“The DPWH as our partner will be the one to implement these projects,” he said in an interview on Thursday.

The PHP175 million seven-kilometer road upgrading project of Barangay Lumboyan- Barangay Mablad to the public market of Barbaza will pass through the abaca, rootcrops, bananas, squash, moringa and turmeric plantations that will make it easier to transport these products.

The construction of the 15.70 kilometers Barangay San Ramon-Barangay Latazon- Barangay Liberato road will connect the abaca, rootcrops, peanuts, ginger, corn, sugar cane plantations to the public market of Laua-an. It has a funding allocation of PHP392.5 million.

In Sibalom town, the construction of the 7.67 kilometers Barangay Tula-tula-Barangay Calu-oy-Barangay Bulalacao circumferential road will provide access for coffee, rootcrops, peanuts and ginger plantations to the public market. It has an allocation of PHP191.75 million.

Alian said that the projects will be implemented within three years starting this year.

“We are going to have a convergence meeting tomorrow so that the project can be implemented soon,”Alian said. (PNA)
