Antique gets P2.5-M funding to build showroom for local products

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has set aside PHP2.5 million to establish a showroom for Antique’s local products in San Jose de Buenavista.

Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao told the media on Monday that Antique is one of four provinces given the budget for the showroom which will also serve as training center for young Antiquenos interested to develop their local craft-making such as handweaving, gemstone, and pottery.

“This will display the one-town-one-product (OTOP) of each municipality,” she said.

The establishment of the showroom will make it unnecessary for the people to travel to towns to see and buy local products such as pottery products in Sibalom and hand-woven fabrics in Bugasong, the governor said.

She said that since the site for the showroom has already been identified in Antique’s capital town, Cadiao is expecting to set up the showroom before the year ends.

She added that this concept has been adopted from Laos which she recently visited with key officials of the provincial tourism office and NCCA. (PNA)
