SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Antiqueño sacadas are set to receive 11 Bulgarian carabulls from the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) as support for their livelihood second week of November.
Antique Provincial Veterinarian (PROVET) Romeo Magdato, in an interview, said Tuesday that the carabulls amounting to PHP80,000 to PHP100,000 each will come from the PCC in Nueva Ecija and will be given to sacadas, who will be identified from the five towns of the province.
“The carabulls will be crossbred with the native female carabaos here so they could produce high breed kids,”Magdato said.
The Bulgarian carabulls are high breed animals proven to be fast grower, bigger animals for meat and dairy production, he added.
“Each sacada recipient who will be identified will be given one bull,” Magdato said. Two bulls each will be given to the towns of Hamtic, Sebaste, Anini-y and Tobias Fornier, and three in Pandan.
Magdato said the recipient sacada could then charge PHP500 from the owner of the female carabao for the breeding, thus, they could earn money from it.
Magdato also said the sacadas will be responsible for taking care of the carabulls that could ultimately be their own if they are able to successfully produce 25 carabao calves through time. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
