Argentina sees record-high daily COVID-19 deaths

BUENOS AIRES, May 5 — Argentina on Wednesday (May 5) reported 663 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease in a single day, the highest number of daily fatalities since the onset of the outbreak here on March 3, 2020.

The figure raises the country’s pandemic death toll to 65,865, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Health.

Tests detected 24,079 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the same 24 hours, bringing the accumulated caseload to 3,071,496.

Occupancy at intensive care units reached 68.2% nationwide and 75.9% in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, which includes the Argentine capital and surrounding urban centers.

According to information from the Public Vaccination Monitor, since the end of December 2020, 10,757,071 vaccine doses have been distributed and 8,533,232 have been applied.  (Xinhua) -jlo
