Armed men harass police detachment in Koronadal

KORONDAL CITY – Unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen attacked a police detachment here early Thursday, but no casualty was reported.

Police Officer 1 Cyrus Sambog said he was on watch at the detachment of the 3rd Provincial Mobile Force Platoon at the boundary of Barangay Saravia here and Palian of Tupi, South Cotabato at around 4 a.m. when two suspects suddenly opened fire.

He said the gunmen fired several shots at the detachment and hastily left the area after several minutes towards the direction of Tupi town.

Sambog said he immediately alerted other standby police operatives, who pursued but failed to catch up with the suspects.

“They clearly targeted our detachment,” he said in a radio interview.

Prior to the attack, Sambog said a black motorycle with two men on board initially stopped infront of the detachment.

Police investigators are already looking into several angles as possible motive of the incident.(AMS/PNA)
