Army soldiers nabbed for Taguig City Christmas Day shooting incident

MANILA – Three members of the Philippine Army have been arrested following a shooting incident that left six persons wounded in Taguig City on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. on Sunday (Dec. 26) identified the suspects as Capt. Nheiljay Maguddayao Garcia, 31; Probationary 2Lt. Felomino Maguddayao Garcia, 30; and 1Lt. Minalyn Awat Ladyong, 29.

Capt. Garcia is with the Training and Doctrine Command in Capas, Tarlac; 2Lt. Garcia is assigned at the Army Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig; and Ladyong is detailed with the Army Signal Regiment, also in Fort Bonifacio.

Danao said the shooting incident happened at about 3:00 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 25) along the C5 Service Road in Wildcat Village, Barangay Pinagsama after the six male victims threw stones at the suspects while they were having a drinking spree.

Infuriated, they used one of their rifles to shoot Edsel Hecita Polo, 28; JD Umbaro Navales, 24; John Carl Marca Sabino, 18; and three male minors aged 17, 16, and 14.

They were taken to Ospital ng Makati and Taguig Pateros District Hospital.

“There are a lot of peaceful means to prevent and repel the aggression without resorting to firing your guns. A gun is not a passport for indiscriminate firing. Please be assured that this will be handled without fear or favor,” Danao said in a statement.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos said they have made representations with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the proper disposition of the incident.

“The PNP immediately informed the AFP regarding the incident so proper course of action can be taken by our counterparts in the military,” Carlos said in a separate statement. (PNA) – bny
