Around 500 homes razed in Kawit fire

Around 500 homes were burned during a fire at Brgy. Samala-Marquez in Kawit, Cavite, affecting around 1,000 families.

First alarm was raised around 12:17AM and reached Task Force Alpha around 1:03AM.

Fire out was declared early in the morning at 4:34.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection Cavite Provincial Director FSupt. Rene Bullos, around 80% of the barangay was engulfed in flames.
He added that most of the homes were made of light materials, adding difficulty to the efforts of firefighters.
“Napakalakas po ng hangin kaya malakas po yung spread of fire kaya tumaas po agad yung alarma natin (The winds were strong that’s why the fire spread quickly, causing us to raise the alarm quickly),” Bullos said.

Aside from homes, the fire also destroyed some buildings of the barangay hall, a day care center, and some business establishments. The cost of damages was around Php800,000.

No casualties were reported in the fire. – Bernard Jaudian
