MANILA — Former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo jumped ship to the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) party on Wednesday.

Arroyo, who belonged to the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats), took her oath before PDP Secretary-General and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

“My joining the PDP is to consolidate support for the President. It is a matter of course as we have been talking about this for quite some time,” Arroyo said in a statement.

Aside from Arroyo, Bohol Rep. Arthur Yap also took his oath as a new PDP member.

The number of PDP members in the House of Representatives so far stands at 123. (PNA)
