Arts group visits Ilocos Norte to share talent with kids

LAOAG CITY — A group of Filipino artists from the various parts of the country is in Ilocos Norte today (Friday) for a 15-day exhibit and workshop.

Self-thought Ilocana artist Angelie Banaag of Laoag City said the event is a good opportunity to promote the camaraderie and unity among arts and culture enthusiasts in the province.

“For the first time, FILARTS is in Ilocos Norte to showcase their latest works,” said Banaag, who is also one of the exhibitors.

FILARTS refers to the Filipinas Institute for the Advancement of Arts and Culture (FILARTS), a non-profit organization that seeks to promote, preserve, develop, protect, and advance the Filipino arts and culture.

While the exhibit is ongoing, the artists themselves will be sharing their talent, particularly to Ilocos children who are inclined to painting.

Banaag said that she, along with 10 other artists, will open the exhibit on Friday (July 6) at 6 p.m. at the Kamarin Cafe, Vista Del Lago Center, overlooking the legendary Paoay Lake in Barangay Nagbacalan, Paoay, Ilocos Norte. The exhibit and workshop there will run until July 20.

On the next day (July 7), the group will be at the Robinsons Mall at 1 p.m. in San Nicolas town for a similar exhibit and workshop, which will run until July 19.

Dubbed as, “Un-natural Beauty,” the exhibit features the impressionism paintings of Banaag, Roy Espinosa, Angelito Florendo, Lloyd Lusica, Mylene Quito, Kim Mamaril, Mellie Villavicencio, Liza Oppus, Jun Austriz and Marilou Austriz.

“We are inviting everyone to join the exhibit and participate in the free workshop,” Banaag added. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
