Back-riding allowed for married and live-in partners starting July 10

Back-riding on motorcycles is now allowed starting Friday, July 10, for married couples and live-in (common law) partners.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año pointed out that such couples are permitted to back-ride provided that a barrier in between the rider and the passenger is present. The barrier must be similar to the prototype of Bohol Governor Arthur Yap that is set to be approved by the National Task Force against COVID-19.

Yap’s prototype design has a barrier higher than the head and has handles. Both the rider and passenger must also wear face masks and helmets. Sec. Año said the barrier is meant to prevent droplet infection.

Random checking will be implemented to prove that the rider and passenger are married or live-in (common law) couples. They are advised to bring their IDs or any documents to prove their status. – Report from Patrick De Jesus
