Bacolod City releases P4.6-M pay of student interns

BACOLOD CITY — The City of Bacolod started releasing on Wednesday the PHP4.6-million honorariums of 1,556 students who participated in the local summer job program in May this year.

Maria Rebecca Balicas, officer-in-charge manager of Public Employment Services Office, said released were the salaries of only 1,360 students, who were able to submit their daily time records (DTRs) and other requirements for payroll processing.

Each student is entitled to receive PHP3,000 for 15 days of work at P200 per day.

The “summer jobbers,” who are all from the 61 barangays of the city, were hired with the support of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Balicas said the salaries were released after the student presents his or her identification card and community tax certificate.

Those who are out-of-town or have to attend classes can authorize someone to claim his or her allowance, but with prior approval from Balicas.

“By Friday, we can cater to those with authorization letters although it would take time since I still have to approve it, as well as the cashier,” she said.

Balicas said those who have not yet submitted their DTRs can still do so for inclusion in the next batch of releases.

“They can visit our office anytime if they have concerns. They can still claim their salaries, but they should find time to process the requirements,” she added. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
