BACOLOD CITY — A total of 185 personnel of the Bacolod City Police received medals from the Police Regional Office 6 (Western Visayas) on Friday afternoon for their dedication to duty and noteworthy performance.
Regional police director, Chief Supt. Cesar Binag, bestowed the awards in rites held at the city police headquarters after the Bacolod personnel scored two major accomplishments on Thursday.
“When it rains, it pours. I don’t need to give you an inspirational message because you are all inspired. Inspired to do even better and improve the services we have been giving to this city,” Binag told Bacolod policemen after pinning their medals.
He said they should sustain their good performance in operations, but now should work more to bring the police closer to the people.
Earlier on Thursday, the Bacolod Police’s Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) contingent was declared overall champion in the first PRO-6 CDM Challenge held at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, besting eight other units in the region during the three-phase competition.
Later in the afternoon, personnel from various units conducted a hot pursuit operation in Sitio Sibucao, Barangay Banago, which led to the death of notorious alleged drug leader Ramy Poja, the number one most wanted person of Police Station 3, and another high-value target Roberto “Bobby” Lim.
The operation, supervised by Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, city police officer-in-charge, was initiated by joint operatives of Police Station 3 headed by Senior Insp. Victor Paulino, Special Operations Group under assistant team leader Insp. Adrian James Albaytar, and Bacolod City Mobile Force Company/Special Weapons and Tactics group headed by Supt. Leonardo Borromeo.
Paulino was the lone recipient of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Wounded Medal after he was shot by the group of Poja following an anti-illegal gambling operation in Sitio Sibucao past noon on Thursday.
A total of 36 personnel led by Ebreo, Paulino and Albaytar were awarded the PNP Medal of Merit for demonstrating exemplary competence and commendable performance during the operation against Poja and his companions.
Seventeen others led by Borromeo received the PNP Commendation Medal for rendering support to the operating teams, also during the operation against the Poja drug group.
All 122 members of the Bacolod Police’s CDM contingent, led by Chief Insp. Sherlock Gabana, also received the PNP Commendation Medal for being overall champion in the PRO-6 CDM Challenge.
Ten other personnel led by Supt. Julie Cabrera received the PNP Commendation Medal for the arrest of two murder suspects, Ian Gregori Parreño and Cesar Parreño. (PNA)
