Bacolod police crime clearance, solution rates increase in June

BACOLOD CITY — The crime clearance and crime solution efficiency rates of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) increased by 5.27 percent and 4.05 percent, respectively, in June this year compared to the same period last year.

Data released by the Bacolod police showed that for June 2018, cleared cases reached 78.79 percent compared to 73.52 percent for the same month last year while solved cases were at 74.46 percent from the previous year’s 70.4 percent.

Senior Superintendent Franciso Ebreo, acting city police director, said in a press conference on Thursday that both the crime clearance and crime solution efficiency rates of the Bacolod police are higher than the Police Regional Office-Western Visayas targets of 68.74 percent and 66.19 percent, respectively.

Crime clearance efficiency is the percentage of cleared cases out of the total number of crime incidents, while crime solution efficiency refers to the percentage of solved cases out of the total number of crime incidents for a given period of time.

A case is considered cleared when at least one of the offenders has been identified; there is sufficient evidence to charge him; and, he has been charged before the prosecutor’s office or any other court of appropriate jurisdiction. Included in this category are solved cases.

Meanwhile, the total crime volume in June this year decreased by 28.04 percent from 321 cases for the same month in 2017 to only 231.

Cases of eight focus or index crimes, including murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, car theft and stealing of motorcycles, dropped by 31.33 percent — from 83 last year to 57 in June this year.

Non-index crimes, which include violations of special laws, among which are reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury and damage to property, decreased by 26.89 percent — from 238 cases in June 2017 to 174 this year.

Moreover, the BCPO conducted 97 police initiated operations in June this year, from last year’s 57. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
