Bacolod police nets P9.28M in ‘shabu’ in 15 days

BACOLOD CITY — The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) seized PHP9.278 million worth of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from August 1 to 15, police figures have showed.

A total of 618.54 grams were confiscated in various operations during the period.

Data showed that from August 9 to 15, anti-drug operatives recovered PHP6.528 million in “shabu” weighing 435.21 grams while from August 1 to 8, seized were 183.33 grams amounting to PHP2.75 million

In the entire 15 days, the police conducted 23 operations and arrested 38 persons. A total of 48 cases were filed.

Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, acting city police director, said in a press conference on Thursday the large volumes seized by the Bacolod police in the past week was a result of the information gathered by the anti-drug units in the previous operations.

“That’s why during follow-up operations we were able to arrest more people and still recovered big volume of illegal drugs,” he said.

On August 8, personnel of Police Station 2 confiscated PHP1.44 million of “shabu” from two suspects in a buy-bust at Purok Ube, Barangay 4.

The following day, City Drug Enforcement Unit operatives seized PHP1.02 million of the same prohibited substance from four high-value personalities in a buy-bust also in Barangay Singcang-Airport.

On August 9, newly-identified drug personality Errol Gimarangan Jr. was arrested with PHP5.1 million worth of shabu also in Barangay Singcang-Airport during the operation conducted by personnel of Police Station 8.

Ebreo said the Bacolod police is employing both the “demand control strategy” and “supply control strategy” in their campaign against illegal drugs.

In terms of demand control, all the 10 police stations are assisting the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council in the barangay clearing efforts while Police Community Relations units of these stations hold lectures and seminars in barangays and schools as part of the anti-drug campaign, he said.

Ebreo said the police operations to curb the illegal drug supply continues in compliance with the instructions of Western Visayas police regional director, Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
