The sale of some wet wipes brands was banned in all establishments in Baguio city for containing harmful chemical compounds.
The six brands contain Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate whose use could result in skin allergies and contact dermatitis. The products are commonly sold in grocery stores, Baguio City Public Market, and particularly in the black market.
Some vendors said it would be better if they will not be supplied with wet wipes products from China, such as the prohibited types.
Although some vendors comply with the ordinance, some are still seen selling harmful wet wipes products.
Based on the ordinance approved by the local council, the establishments caught selling the banned products will be fined Php 1,000 on their first offense.
A fine of Php 3,000 and Php 5,000 will be imposed on vendors on their second and third offenses, respectively. – Report from Rachelle Garcia
