Banknotes with Diokno’s signature in circulation by June

MANILA — The initial batch of Philippine bank notes bearing the signature of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno will be out around June 2019.

This was disclosed by Diokno during a dinner he hosted for friends and a handful of journalists Monday to celebrate his birthday, March 31.

He said there were about four specimens that were presented to him.

“(The signed banknotes will be released) in about three months,” he said.

Diokno was appointed to head the BSP last February after former BSP Governor Nestor A. Espenilla Jr. succumbed to cancer last February 23.

During Espenilla’s time, the BSP released banknotes with the Governor’s signature in December 2017, around five months after he took over the helm of BSP in July.

Also, the BSP released the initial batch of bank notes with the signature of President Rodrigo R. Duterte in December 2016, six months after he took office.
