Barangay Ginebra trades Ellis, Marcelo for Blackwater’s Dela Cruz, Aguilar

It seems that one of the energetic high-flyers in the league right now, together with his trustworthy big man colleague, will resettle in a new home team.

The Barangay Ginebra Kings will send their athletic and high-flying wingman Chris Ellis and reliable back up center Dave Marcelo in a direct exchange to another two emerging quality players from Blackwater Elite.

According to veteran sports journalist Dennis Principe, Ginebra’s Ellis and Marcelo are expected to be traded today, Thursday, for Blackwater’s sophomore guard Art Dela Cruz and power forward Raymond Aguilar.

A reliable source said that trade papers have already on its way to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for final approval, however, the both the management from Ginebra and Blackwater would not publicized any comments regarding the said trade.

“Ok na, madali naman nag-agree yung teams. I guess they need to let go of those players para lumabas din laro nila. Both teams believe the destination of all players involve will present a new and challenging environment for all of them,” said the source, according to Principe.

In the ongoing PBA Governor’s Cup, Ginebra is currently on a winning streak even with just limited playing time from Ellis, who’s averaging 3.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists.

On the side of Blackwater, elite guard Dela Cruz is averaging an impressive 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the last two PBA seasons. | Tretch Melarpes – PTV
