Netizens favor the inclusion of the swimming subject in the Kinder to 12 (K-12) curriculum.

This after House Bill 7476 was filed at the House of Representatives by Probinsyano Ako Partylist Rep. Rudys Caesar Fariñas.

“Yes, [our] country is surrounded by ocean and yet most of us [don’t] know how to [swim]. It is a must!” one netizen wrote.

“Yes, [swimming] should [be included] in basic survival training and disaster mitigation as a subject,” another one added.

Meanwhile, another netizen recommended the inclusion of basic life support and first aid as survival training in the same curriculum.

Another one cited the swimming subject as a “self-defense during calamities.”

“Life saving skill yan eh,” a netizen added.

The bill seeks to mandate swimming as a subject in the K-12 Basic Education curriculum.

“[This is] as an integral part of the overall strategy to reduce the incidence of death by drowning during natural calamities or recreational aquatic activities,” the bill’s explanatory note read. -ag
