BATANGAS CITY – To establish disaster-resilient communities, the provincial government of Batangas, conducted a two-day Basic Emergency Management and First Aid Response training among 32 barangay tanods (village watchers) and officers from various health worker volunteer groups.
Batangas Public Information Officer Jenelyn A. Aguilera disclosed to the PNA on Thursday that the emergency responders’ training from April 10 to 11 was jointly organized by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Batangas Medical Center (BatMC) for the province’s various districts.
Odie Alialy, BatMC’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management for Health Assistant manager, led the two-day training, together with professional emergency responders – who conducted their hands-on supervision for the volunteers.
Alialy said the training aims to equip all volunteers in Batangas province with adequate knowledge and skills on rescue operations, saving lives and emergency scenarios to make them prepared in the event of an emergency and calamity situation.
Participants were trained to properly handle emergency cases such as the wounded, burned and injured individuals, including the proper procedure of carrying or lifting an injured person, and other emergency management techniques.
Aside from the Basic Emergency Management and First Aid Training, the participants also underwent basic life support program lined up by the PHO and BatMC.
The training exercises were conducted as part of Governor Hermilando Mandanas’ directive to establish disaster resilient communities in the province; avert any loss of life and prevent extensive damage to properties in times of emergencies.
The ‘graduates,’ who are now considered partners as emergency responders, are also encouraged to share their knowledge and acquired skills to their respective communities and establish first aid and response teams in their localities.
