BATANGAS CITY – The Batangas Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) are gearing up to transform internet savvy students into trained video bloggers or “vloggers” to intensify tourism promotions via social media and online networking.

Batangas provincial public information office chief Jenelyn A. Aguilera said Tuesday the tourism and cultural affairs office has embarked on trainings for travel bloggers and techie millennials to produce travel blogs and promotional campaigns through video blogs and info graphics that would promote the province’s tourism destinations.

Aguilera said a training workshop for vloggers, “Introduction on How to Become a Vlogger”, was spearheaded by the PTCAO, through tourism department head lawyer Sylvia Marasigan, and the STAR Tollway Corp., through its Marketing and Business Development Manager Tony B. Reyes Jr. last July 4.

She said that the vloggers’ workshop aims to encourage and hone the craft among internet savvy and home-grown creative Batangueño students to produce video blogs or “vlogs” that would feature interesting landmarks and travel destinations in Batangas.

The training workshop tapped student participants from the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, University of Batangas, STI and Lyceum of the Philippines University (LUP)-Batangas.

PTCAO organizers said that “these internet enthusiasts and online buffs are groomed to be their so-called tourism ‘ambassadors’ in their tourism promotions and campaigns using social media.”

During the workshop, Ron Villagonzalo, a freelancer and active vlogger from Manila was invited as resource speaker.

Workshop sessions include orientation and guidelines for starters as vloggers; tools and materials needed; contents and substance as part of the vlogs; and ways to earn from the vlogging craft.

As part of the workshop, the participants were assigned to produce their travel vlogs as starters and their outputs were also evaluated for enhancements.

Villagonzalo also shared his know-how and personal experience as a vlogger and underscored the rules for responsible vloggers and social media users. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
