Bato looking forward to BuCor post, vows ‘clean-up’

MANILA — Outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Tuesday he is looking forward to his new assignment as incoming chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), which he vowed to clean up.

“Tingnan lang ninyo kung ano mangyari doon. Ano gusto nyo? Dugo, tubig o hangin? Blood, sweat and tears gusto mo, post sa BuCor daw pinaka (mahirap) at wala pa nagsu-suceed? (Just watch what will happen there. What do you prefer? Blood sweat and tears. They say the BuCor post is the most difficult and no one has succeeded there yet.) I will succeed. Mark my word,” he said of his prospects.

Dela Rosa had reached mandatory retirement age last Jan. 21 but was granted a term extension by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

The President has named National Capital Region Police Office Chief Director Oscar Albayalde as dela Rosa’s successor.

Albayalde is scheduled to take over as PNP chief on April 18.

Dela Rosa said he is keen on accounting for the high-profile drug lords currently serving time at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, which is run by the BuCor, an agency under the Department of Justice.

“As to the details, huwag na. Baka hindi pa ako maka-assume, kasuhan na ninyo ako (As to the details, I will not say it because someone might decide to initiate something even before I assume office). I will not give you the details but I will tell you, mark my word, I will succeed. Hindi ako magpapatalo sa mga drug lords na yan (I will not bow to these drug lords). As to how I will do it, just extend your wild imagination,” he added.

“Account ko kung nasaan na sila (I will account where the drug lords are). Pa-swear ko sila sa Bible na huwag na silang gumawa ng kalokohan dahil kapag sila ay gumawa ng kalokohan, doble yung kasalanan nila — kasalanan dito sa lupa, kasalanan sa langit, hindi ba? Yun lang (I will ask them to swear on the Bible to change their ways because if they continue to err, their sins will be doubled. They have sinned here on earth and they have also sinned against the heavens. That’s all),” dela Rosa said. (PNA)
