The rehabilitation of Baguio City Public Market took a week to finish instead of the projected three months because of “teamwork,” according to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong on Monday, March 20.

During the flag-raising rites at Baguio City Hall, Magalong extended his gratitude to organizations and individuals for providing assistance to the victims of the public market fire on March 11.

“I would just like to mention some of the organizations and individuals who stood out among the others, who really were there, who compassionately and passionately provides services, support, assistance, and comfort to those affected,” Magalong said.

Magalong emphasized that the “bayanihan spirit” is the reason for the public market’s swift rehabilitation, which took only seven days instead of the projected three months.

“The reason why we were able to make it [market rehabilitation] in only seven days instead of the projected three months is because of the hard work, the teamwork, and what we call ‘bayanihan spirit’ where everybody contributed,” he added.

Magalong also expressed gratitude to government officials from the national and local office, as well as other government agencies and private companies for their assistance and contribution to the rehabilitation of the market.

He cited former Department of Tourism Regional Director Venus Tan for raising P1.7 million from private donors for fire victims and leading the Baguio Advisory Council. – cf
