BFAR opens application for Fisheries Scholarship Program

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Children of registered municipal fisherfolk in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) who wish to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries degree, have until Nov. 16 to apply and submit their application at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regional office here for the ‘Fisheries Scholarship Program.’

The ‘Fisheries Scholarship Program’ (FSP) is open to all natural born citizens, who are of good moral character (as certified by the school head/principal), not more than 25 years of age and whose parent/guardian has been a resident of the municipality for at least six months.

BFAR Fisheries Scholarship Focal Person for Region IV-A Melanie G. Briones said Monday that BFAR Calabarzon has 20 available slots for ‘Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant’ (FCEG) and another 3 slots for ‘Fishery Industry Leaders’ (FIL).

The FCEG is for high school graduates not currently enrolled in any college/university or a high school graduating student, while the FIL is for graduating high school student of the current year, who belongs to the top 10 of his/her graduating class (as duly certified by school head/principal).

The scholarship support/privileges per scholar includes free tuition and other school fees (or as required by the curriculum, except dormitory fees/rental), monthly stipend (PHP4,000), book allowance (PHP2,000 outright grant for textbooks and other essential school supplies released every semester), thesis support (PHP7,000 outright grant per school upon submission of Certified True Copy of thesis proposal and approval sheet), and a graduation support of PHP1,500.

The course is available in almost all Calabarzon provinces, Briones clarified, citing state universities such as Cavite State University (CvSU) in Naic (for Cavite), Laguna State Polytechnic University here (for Laguna), Batangas State University – Nasugbu campus, University of Rizal System – Cardona Campus (for Rizal), and South Luzon State University Tagkawayan campus (for Quezon).

Applicants are advised to monitor BFAR’s pages for updates on the venues for the exam set on Jan.12, 2019.
