BFAR prohibits sale of imported pampano, pink salmon in public markets

By Gabriela Baron

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) warned traders on Thursday, Nov. 24, against selling imported fish such as pampano and pink salmon in public markets.

BFAR said only big companies, hotels, and restaurants are allowed to sell imported fish.

“Imported na isda sa merkado, pwede kapag awtorisado,” Department of Agriculture-BFA Officer-in-Charge Atty. Demosthenes Escoto said.

Escoto stressed that only fish imported through Fisheries Administrative Order (FAO) 259 and the recent Certificate of Necessity to Import (CNI), which gives priority to municipal fishing associations, cooperatives, and commercial fishing operators affected by the closed fishing season, are allowed to be sold in the wet markets.

The selling of imported fish in public wet markets will only be allowed until Dec. 4. -ag
