ILOILO CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection in Western Visayas (BFP-6) is set to pull out its personnel deployed in the retrieval operations in the City of Naga in Cebu.

Supt. Crosbee Gumowang, Assistant Regional Director for Operations of BFP-6, said Wednesday that they are planning to bring back their 15 personnel from their Special Rescue Unit this October 6 in preparation for the scheduled reopening of Boracay Island late this month.

A letter will be sent to Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo, Regional Director of BFP-7 (Central Visayas), on October 4 to allow them to pull-out their personnel because they still need to prepare for the reopening of Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan this October 26.

“We need to practice for the capability demo that we will be conducting on the reopening day,” Gumowang said.

Gumowang said the 15 personnel were deployed to Barangay Tina-an, Naga City last September 23 after their national headquarters ordered them to augment in the retrieval operations. They were with teams from BFP Eastern Visayas (Region 8) and Northern Mindanao (Region 10).

The BFP-6 team was headed by Inspector Arden Bedoña.

So far, Gumowang said, the BFP had retrieved six cadavers from the site.

They are working 24 hours a day and given 24 hours off.

Gumowang lauded the 15 personnel from BFP-6 for their contribution to the search and rescue of landslide victims. (Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
