ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said negligence is the top cause of fire incidents this year in this city.

This was disclosed on Wednesday by Supt. Jhufel Brañanola, Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) marshal, who at the same time bared that this year’s fire incidents have already surpassed last year’s cases by 44, although it is still mid-December.

Brañanola said they have recorded 151 fire incidents since January this year, which was higher than that of last year’s 107 incidences.

“The residents should be very cautious to prevent the incidence of fire,” Brañanola said.

The BFP official said that 84 of the 151 fire incidents recorded this year were classified as structural while the remaining 66 were non-structural. Most of the fire incidents in 2017 were caused by electric short circuit.

Brañanola said BFP is regularly conducting information drive in fire safety in the barangays and schools, including fire drills.

The ZCFD has one central fire station and 15 sub-stations with 228 personnel and 22 fire trucks.
