The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Saturday, Oct. 8, that the process for the procurement of body cameras “capable of live streaming” for secondary inspectors has started.

In a news release, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said they are expecting the deployment of cameras by the end of the year.

“Body cameras will ensure that our immigration officers are effective, and remain accountable for their actions as law enforcers,” Tansingco said.

“It would be easier for us to investigate complaints of misconduct with the use of body cams. It would also remind our officers to always be professional in the conduct of their duties,” he added.

The BI said P16M of its budget has been earmarked for the procurement.

Additional electronic gates are also being procured for the replacement of half of manual operations by 2026. AG
